Hyderabad: Shamirpet police have booked an 18-year-old youth for allegedly creating panic by circulating a false claim on social media about a leopard sighting near Shamirpet lake on Monday.

Police said the accused, Ravinder Kumar, a native of Bihar, used artificial intelligence tools to generate an image of a leopard and shared it online, falsely claiming the animal was roaming near the lake. The image quickly spread across local WhatsApp groups, sparking alarm among residents in the area.

Following the viral posts, teams from Shamirpet police station and the Forest Department rushed to the spot and conducted a detailed inspection of the lake and its surroundings. Officials found no evidence of a wild animal or its footprints, or eyewitness accounts and confirmed the claim was fabricated.
