Unable to bear the alleged abuse, Shabnam Begum said she escaped from her employer and is currently staying at the Embassy of India in Muscat.

Hyderabad: A woman identified as Shabnam Begum, a resident of Pahadi Shareef, Hyderabad, has sought assistance from the Centre to return to India after allegedly being subjected to exploitation while working in Oman.

According to reports, Shabnam Begum travelled to Muscat, Oman, on March 26 after a local agent promised her a job as a housemaid. Upon her arrival, she was received and taken to an office before being sent to work in different households.

A video of Shabnam has gone viral on social media, in which she says that she has four children. She alleged that she was made to work for 12 to 15 hours a day, was denied access to a mobile phone, and was not provided with proper accommodation or adequate food. She further claimed that she was forced to work day and night without being paid any salary.

Unable to bear the alleged abuse, Shabnam Begum said she escaped from her employer and is currently staying at the Embassy of India in Muscat.

Her family members have appealed to the authorities and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to facilitate her safe repatriation to India and take stringent action against the agent responsible for sending her to Oman.
