Hyderabad: Uppal Nalla Cheruvu Likely to Open in November

Hyderabad: HYDRAA commissioner A.V. Ranganath said that restoration work at the Nalla Cheruvu in Uppal was likely to be completed in two months, and would be inaugurated by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy in November. The agency said that the lake was subjected to severe encroachment, and was limited to less than 50 acres of water limit, but the land was reclaimed and the lake has been expanded to 67.31 acres.

“The lake, along the Warangal Highway, was previously a garbage and industrial effluent dump yard. This is now transformed into a fresh water lake, and would be made a tourist hub generating huge employment”, Ranganath said.

Officials said the lake is being developed with inlets to let stormwater in and fill the lake, and outlet gates to ensure excess water is deviated efficiently and make sure the surrounding areas do not get water inundated. HYDRAA also said a 2.4 kilometer bund and walking track is being developed around the lake, along with gazebos and playing areas. Ranganath also inspected Madhapur’s Thammidikunta and Sunnam Cheruvu on Saturday. He urged authorities to improve greenery around the lakes, and create a more peaceful environment.
