Hyderabad: Unqualified Experts Caught at Skin Clinics

“In several clinics, none of the doctors registered at the time of licensing were working there. Some establishments lacked even basic registration,” an official involved in the inspections said.

Hyderabad: The Telangana Medical Council has uncovered serious irregularities at 20 skin care and aesthetic clinics in Hyderabad, many allegedly operated by unqualified individuals. Simultaneous inspections in Miyapur, Kukatpally, Kondapur and Borabanda revealed that advanced cosmetic procedures were being performed by those without formal training in dermatology or surgery.

Officials found that treatments such as hair transplantation, laser therapy and PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) were being conducted by dentists, Unani and Ayush practitioners, and even individuals with only intermediate education or diploma certifications. Regulations mandate that such procedures be performed exclusively by those with MBBS and MD degrees in dermatology or plastic surgery.

“In several clinics, none of the doctors registered at the time of licensing were working there. Some establishments lacked even basic registration,” an official involved in the inspections said.

Even well-known clinics were found violating norms, raising concerns about the scale of unregulated practices. “This isn’t just about qualifications—it’s about patient safety. Untrained handling of medical procedures poses serious risks,” said Dr Mahesh Kumar, chairman of the Telangana Medical Council, who led one of the inspection teams.

The council is reviewing evidence from the 20 clinics and has indicated that further action will follow. “We are not only looking at shutting down violators but also exploring legal measures in cases of gross negligence or fraud,” said Dr G. Srinivas, vice chairman of the council.

Council members Dr Sunny Davis, Dr Vijay, Dr Rajeev and Dr Arundhati participated in the raids. The inspections have reignited debate over the need for stricter regulation of cosmetic clinics and greater public awareness.
