Hyderabad: Two arrested for matrimony fraud

Hyderabad: The city cybercrime police on Saturday arrested two persons, Tamma Hema Mani, 37, and Konda Reddy, 43, for allegedly cheating a 45-year-old man from Hyderabad of Rs 4.97 lakh via a matrimony site meant for divorcees.
The accused were arrested from their native place in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, Cybercrime DCP Dara Kavitha said.
The accused contacted the victim via the matrimony site in May last. Hema introduced herself as a cardiologist, and claimed to be a divorcee, police said. They developed a friendship and the accused proposed marriage and the victim accepted.
Hema then requested money from the victim for urgent treatment of treatment. Later, she sought, and secured, money following the death of her mother. In total, the victim transferred `4,97,200 in multiple transactions to Hema. The continuing requests for money made the victim contact the police
