Hyderabad: Three Minors Die After Bike Crashes into Divider at Aramgarh Flyover in Attapur

Hyderabad: Three minor boys died after their bike crashed into the divider at the newly-inaugurated Aramgarh flyover in Attapur at 1 am on Monday. The cause of the accident is suspected to be overspeeding.

According to the police, two of the deceased were 14-year-old Class 8 students and a 16-year-old in Class 10. The Old City residents were returning home after prayers.

The names of the victims and their families are being with held to protect their identity as they were minors.

Their two-wheeler, believed to be owned by the father of one of the 14-year-olds, crashed into the divider, killing him and the 16-yaer-old on the spot. The other 14-year-old succumbed to his injuries while being shifted to a hospital.

The impact of the collision was such that the streetlight pole near the divider got severely bent. All the three suffered severe head injuries.

A commuter found a mobile phone in the pocket of one of the 14-yaer-olds and informed his parents about the accident. Police were informed and they shifted the victims to a hospital, booked a case and began investigations.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, the uncle of one of the teens said, the family was in a state of shock. “Around 12.45 am, his mother video-called him after not finding the keys of the bike at home. That is when he said he was out for prayers and that he was on his way back home. Some time later, we got a call from a person informing us about his death.”

A cousin of the 16-year-old victim said: “We don't even know who was driving the vehicle. There are no CCTV cameras on the flyover to ascertain what happened. We do not know whether the incident happened while they were trying to avoid a collision, or was it a fellow commuter’s mistake that made them lose control.”

This reporter found no CCTV camera on the entire four-kilometre stretch of the flyover, the second longest in the state. There were four signboards for the speed limit, two on each side of the two way flyover.

Responding to a query on how the cause of the accident was ascertained, Attapur Inspector G. Venkat Rami Reddy said, “We were able to ascertain that the crash happened due to overspeeding because the vehicle has not suffered much damage and the impact of the crash led to the streetlight pole getting damaged.”

The inspector also confirmed that there were no CCTV cameras on the flyover.
