Hyderabad: Suicide note written by two sisters found with their mother's body

Police said the sisters, Cheemala Ravali, 25, and Yashvanika, 22, had held their father C. Raju and their uncle C. Ramesh responsible for their situation.

Hyderabad: While investigating the shocking incident of two sisters who have been living with their mother’s decomposed body since January 23.

Police said they had found a suicide note written by the two sisters who had stayed with the body of their mother for eight days. Warisguda police also confirmed that one of the sisters had previously attempted suicide.

Police said the sisters, Cheemala Ravali, 25, and Yashvanika, 22, had held their father C. Raju and their uncle C. Ramesh responsible for their situation. They said Raju had abandoned their mother, Lalitha, 45, in 2021. Lalitha died on January 23.
The family was in a poor financial condition and had no money to perform their mother’s last rites. “Based on the suicide note, we have called their uncle Ramesh for questioning,” sub-inspector T. Sudhakar said.
“They disclosed that they were deeply disturbed after their mother’s death. Now, some relatives have come forward to support them.”

When contacted, their uncle Ramesh denied the allegations, claiming he had financially supported the family, including during the Covid-19 pandemic. “The sisters are disturbed and that’s why they might have mentioned my name. It may take some time for them to recover. We will take care of them,” he said.

The police, with assistance from the Sakhi Foundation, offered the sisters place in a shelter home, but they refused, insisting on staying in their house until their mother’s last rites were completed.

The family fell apart after Raju was arrested in early 2021 in connection with a murder case, sources said. After Raju left, Lalitha and her daughters stayed in the same house for a few years. Raju allegedly did not attend court and police began inquiring about it from the family. They then moved to a rented house in Bodhanagar, Warasiguda, where Lalitha died.
Lalitha could not pay the rent for the past three months and her landlady filed a complaint with the police against her. Ravali and Yashvanika also mentioned her name in the suicide note.

The officer said the other residents did not experience any smell as the body was kept in an unventilated small bedroom.
Family members of Lalitha performed her last rites at a crematorium in Domalguda after the postmortem was concluded at Gandhi Hospital mortuary at 12.20 pm and the body was handed over to them on Saturday.

Lalitha’s husband Raju remains absconding and the police are awaiting postmortem reports for further investigation.
