Hyderabad: A Hyderabad-based student was critically injured in a car accident in the United States while returning from a friend's graduation ceremony. A minor driver allegedly rammed into the vehicle in which Sai Teja, 27, a resident of Shivarampally, was travelling, in Montgomery, Alabama.
Teja is believed to have sustained a traumatic brain injury, stroke, fractured jaw and fractured left leg. He is undergoing treatment in an ICU at Baptist Medical Centre South in Montgomery, Alabama, and was unconscious. His friend Akhil, who was also in the vehicle, suffered minor injuries and bruises.
According to a GoFundMe page started by Teja’s cousins, doctors have informed the family that Teja faces a long and uncertain road to recovery. Even after regaining consciousness, he may require months of rehabilitation, including neurological treatment, physical therapy, speech therapy and specialised medical care.
Teja had moved to the United States as an international student, and was reportedly looking for employment. Family members said that Teja did not have medical insurance as he was unemployed and searching for a job.
