Hyderabad, Some Telangana Districts Receive Rainfall From Monday Afternoon

The India Meteorological Department warned of heavy rain in 11 districts and thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 30 to 40 kmph across the state.

Hyderabad:Repeated rain bands swept Hyderabad and several Telangana districts from Monday afternoon into late night, after a reported 101.5 mm at Sirpur in Kumuram Bheem Asifabad. The India Meteorological Department warned of heavy rain in 11 districts and thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 30 to 40 kmph across the state.

Hyderabad saw its main spell between 7 pm and 9 pm after a bright, humid day. Rain spread across Kukatpally, Madhapur, Jubilee Hills, Yousufguda, Ameerpet, Begumpet and Secunderabad, leaving waterlogged patches and slowing traffic at several junctions.

Telangana Development Planning Society data showed Mamidipally received 28 mm by 9 pm, followed by Adibatla with 26.5 mm and Shamshabad with 24.5 mm. Mangalpally recorded 16 mm, Banjara Hills 11 mm, Hafeezpet 10.8 mm, and both Rajiv Gandhi International Airport and Madhapur 10.3 mm. Masab Tank received 8 mm and Goshamahal 7.8 mm.

IMD said light to moderate rain or thundershowers were likely at many places in Telangana until 8.30 am on Tuesday. Heavy rain was forecast at isolated places in Adilabad, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Sangareddy, Medak and Kamareddy.

The Hyderabad bulletin forecast a generally cloudy sky and light rain or thundershowers in parts of the city. Balaji T who runs Telangana Weatherman, tracked successive rain bands moving from western and central Hyderabad towards the east. Hyderabad Rains said “more moderate rain bands” were moving towards the city late at night, with brief intense spells possible before midnight.
