Hyderabad Records Coldest Morning In 7 Years

Indian Meteorological Department-Hyderabad (IMD-H) scientists said that the pattern reflects sustained radiational cooling, clear skies and the inflow of colder northerly winds, creating conditions that may persist through the next few days.

Hyderabad: Hyderabad woke up to its coldest morning in seven years on Friday, with temperatures plunging far below normal across the city and dropping to near-freezing levels on the outskirts.

The weather station at the University of Hyderabad at Serilingampally clocked 6.3°C, the lowest in the city, followed by 7.1°C at Moula Ali and 7.7°C at Rajendranagar. Several neighbourhoods, including Gachibowli, Alwal, Macha Bollaram and West Maredpally, also spent the morning in single digits, an unusually sharp dip for early December.

The outskirts bore the brunt of the chill. Moinabad recorded 5.4°C and Ibrahimpatnam touched 6.3°C, conditions more common to mid-winter in the northern districts.

Across Telangana, the coldwave strengthened through the night, with Sangareddy at 5.8°C, Rangareddy at 6.0°C, and Kumaram Bheem Asifabad at 6.5°C. Vikarabad logged 6.8°C, while Nizamabad, Adilabad, Kamareddy, Siddipet, Nirmal, Medak and several others stayed between 7.3°C and 9.5°C.

Indian Meteorological Department-Hyderabad (IMD-H) scientists said that the pattern reflects sustained radiational cooling, clear skies and the inflow of colder northerly winds, creating conditions that may persist through the next few days.

Residents reported foggy patches, slow starts and heavier winter clothing across the city. Officials advised caution for night and dawn travel, with reminders to keep vulnerable groups warm and hydrated.

Farmers in colder districts have also been urged to prepare for extended low temperatures through the coming week. For the city and the rest of Telangana, this is the most intense early-December cold spell in recent memory, with more freezing mornings expected before temperatures settle.
