Hyderabad: Private Hospital Faces Probe in Miscarriage Case

“Now doctors at Gandhi Hospital are transfusing blood to prevent complications to her heart and kidneys. Later, they said her abdomen would need to be cleaned to remove remains from the miscarriage,” he added, his voice trembling.

Hyderabad: Following the death of twin foetuses due to an alleged miscarriage at a private hospital in Ibrahimpatnam, the victim, 26-year-old Butti Keerthi, was shifted to Gandhi Hospital for treatment due to severe blood loss. Ibrahimpatnam police, who are probing the case, have seized the hospital’s digital video recorder (DVR) and are collecting further evidence.

Keerthi has been undergoing blood transfusions to stabilise her condition. “She has been losing blood for the past 20 days. Despite repeated consultations, Dr V. Anusha Reddy at Vijayalaxmi Hospital dismissed our concerns and assured us everything was fine,” said her husband, Ganesh, speaking to Deccan Chronicle.

“Now doctors at Gandhi Hospital are transfusing blood to prevent complications to her heart and kidneys. Later, they said her abdomen would need to be cleaned to remove remains from the miscarriage,” he added, his voice trembling.

Ganesh said the trauma of losing their unborn children would haunt them forever. “We conceived after six years of marriage. This tragedy is not because of our carelessness but due to the negligence of the hospital, the doctor and the staff. Even after the loss, when I requested the doctor to consider a discount on the bill, she remained arrogant and showed no remorse. She behaved as if she had done nothing wrong. For us, it is a double tragedy,” he said, visibly shattered.

Ibrahimpatnam police have registered a case against Dr Anusha Reddy and the hospital staff under Section 106(1) of the BNS (causing death by negligence). The sub-section specifically refers to medical practitioners holding qualifications recognised under the National Medical Commission Act, 2019.

A police source confirmed that investigators are examining the seized CCTV footage and gathering technical and documentary evidence to determine the sequence of events that led to the miscarriage. According to the complaint filed by Ganesh, Keerthi had conceived twins through in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) after seven years of marriage. Despite repeated complaints of pain and bleeding, the gynaecologist allegedly failed to provide timely medical intervention, which led to the loss of the twins.
