Hyderabad Traffic Joint Commissioner of Police, D. Joel Davis said only government-approved high-security registration plates (HSRP) are legally permitted

Hyderabad: Following surge in citizen complaints, the Hyderabad traffic police launched an intensified special enforcement drive against vehicles using fake, tampered or unauthorized registration number plates. These violations strictly contravene the Motor Vehicles Act and other relevant legal provisions.
As part of this ongoing crackdown, five criminal cases were registered over the past week against individuals using fraudulent registration plates to conceal vehicle identities, evade traffic enforcement and violate regulations.
Multiple vehicles were identified and seized during the operation. The criminal cases were registered at Jubilee Hills, Malakpet, Begum Bazaar, Abids and Kacheguda police stations.
Hyderabad Traffic Joint Commissioner of Police, D. Joel Davis said only government-approved high-security registration plates (HSRP) are legally permitted. Any custom alterations, missing digits, or temporary stickers are strictly illegal.
The Hyderabad traffic police reiterated its zero tolerance policy toward fraudulent vehicle registration practices. Citizens are strictly cautioned that using fake or manipulated registration plates will result in severe legal consequences, including criminal prosecution and the immediate seizure of the vehicle.
The department appealed to all vehicle owners to strictly adhere to prescribed number plate norms and traffic regulations. To ensure public safety, lawful road usage, and effective crime prevention, these enforcement drives will continue across the city in a sustained, systematic and vigorous manner.
