Hyderabad: The Hyderabad police foiled an attempt to murder on a rowdy-sheeter with the arrest of five persons including a degree student.
The arrested have been identified as Syed Afroz (37), Mohd Shah Owais (29), Mohd Arbaaz Khan (22) and Syed Firdos (34), all residents of Langar House and Syed Imtiyaz Ali (45), a resident of Humayun Nagar in Mehdipatnam.
Arbaaz Khan was a final-year degree student, while others were into real-estate and construction business. Two country-made pistols with five live rounds, an SUV and half a dozen mobile phones were seized from the possession of the arrested persons.
Two other persons - Jaber and Mohammed Jameel alias Jammu wanted in the case were absconding, said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Task Force, Ande Srinivas.
The police said the prime accused Afroz and his associates were planning to eliminate Ahmed Ali Khan alias Ashraf alias Ashu, a rowdy sheeter of Narsingi police station, and his brother Amer due to personal grudge.
The police said the arrested were in possession of deadly weapons and ammunition without valid licenses and added that Afroz, Ali Khan and others were involved in business dealings and financial transactions.
Following differences of non-payment of cash in the business dealings, Afroz bore a grudge against Ali Khan and his brother and decided to eliminate them. Afroz purchased two country-made pistols with five live rounds from Jaber, who is a rowdy sheeter of Attapur police station, to execute the murder plan.
The police received a tip-off from their informers about a planned murder. Acting swiftly on the information, the police foiled the murder attempt with the arrest of the accused.
