Hyderabad Police Bust Inter-State Drug Network; Officer Injured

A HNEW officer sustained injuries during the operation that was conducted jointly with the Tolichowki police. The joint force was probing an order for drugs placed by a Hyderabad peddler.

Hyderabad: Officers of the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (HNEW) travelled to New Delhi and arrested two Nigerians, Chidi Ezeh and Obasi James Victor, for alleged drug trafficking, seizing 150 grams of MDMA worth about ₹20 lakh.

A HNEW officer sustained injuries during the operation that was conducted jointly with the Tolichowki police. The joint force was probing an order for drugs placed by a Hyderabad peddler.

Investigators found that the Ezeh and Victor had procured Aadhaar, PAN and other identity documents under South Indian names.

Police said Ezeh used to procure narcotics from one Chris, a Nigerian national residing in New Delhi. Depending on the orders placed by peddlers, Ezeh either asked them to come to Delhi, or arranged the delivery or deployed Victor. The drugs were allegedly delivered hand-to-hand after receiving payment.

Victor entered India on a tourist visa on December 31, 2011, and his passport and visa had since expired. Initially in a cloth export business to Nigeria, he later opened a restaurant in Delhi. He is married and was residing in Delhi with his family in the same building as Ezeh.

The agency has initiated deportation proceedings of Victor through the Foreigners Regional Registration Office with the assistance of the Nigerian Embassy.
