Hyderabad: The civil supplies department has directed autorickshaw LPG marketing companies to ensure adequate fuel supply to autorickshaw drivers, and warned of action against them in case of non-compliance.
Commissioner M. Stephen Raveendra on Wednesday chaired a review meeting with representatives of private autorickshaw LPG firms, including Aegis Gas, Super Gas, Go Gas, Total Energies, Prime Gas, Extra Gas and Uni Gas, at Civil Supplies Bhavan. He instructed the companies to immediately source LPG through all available channels to address the shortfall, with a focus on improving supply in Hyderabad.
Officials said the department has prioritised the issue to prevent disruption to public transport and is continuing discussions with marketing companies to ease the shortage.
The commissioner noted that private operators account for 80 per cent of the Auto LPG market, operating 110 outlets across the state, and stressed the need to scale up supply. He warned that failure to maintain adequate availability would invite stringent action.
The review assessed both pre-crisis and current supply conditions. Officials said the shortage follows international supply constraints linked to the West Asia crisis, with auto-LPG availability dropping by 35 per cent, even as domestic household LPG supply remains unaffected. The department said ensuring uninterrupted fuel access for auto drivers remains critical to maintaining public transport services.
