Hyderabad: Ministers Review Preparedness for Muharram

After the review meeting with government adviser Mohammed Ali Shabbir, the ministers said that the government was making all necessary arrangements for Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar, which is expected to begin from June 16, after the crescent moon sighting. Prabhakar directed that police pickets and high-mast lights be set up at the Ashur Khanas, where events related to Muharram are held.

Hyderabad: The city in-charge minister Ponnam Prabhakar and minorities welfare minister Mohammed Azharuddin on Tuesday reviewed the preparedness for the ensuing Muharram month. They instructed officials for immediate completion of pending drainage and road repair works in the vicinity of the Ashur Khanas, particularly in parts of the old city.

Prabhakar directed that police pickets and high-mast lights be set up at the Ashur Khanas, where events related to Muharram are held.

The ministers also directed senior police officials to take precautionary measures to prevent traffic disruptions during the Muharram procession. They emphasised the need for robust security arrangements in the area surrounding Bibi-ka-Alava, where the main procession is set out after 10 days following the beginning of Muharram month. Shabbir directed officials to ensure that all basic amenities are provided so that visitors to the Ashur Khanas do not face any inconvenience.
