Hyderabad Metro Tickets Get Costlier

The fare fixation committee submitted its report recommending a revised fare structure on January 25, 2023.

Hyderabad:Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) on Thursday announced an increase in its ticket fare by Rs 2 to Rs 15 over various distances, with effect from Saturday and would affect around 5 lakh daily commuters.

With the hike, lowest ticket price would go up from Rs 10 to Rs 12 for distances up to 2 km. The maximum fare has been increased from Rs 60 to Rs 75, a 25 per cent hike, for distances above 24 km.

Larsen & Toubro (L&T), which operates the Hyderabad Metro, reportedly informed Chief Minister Revanth Reddy that it its losses had mounted to Rs 6,500 crore. It also highlighted a 15-month delay caused during the tenure of the previous BRS government, which halted the project seeking changes to the alignment. The project was allowed to proceed with the original alignment. However, the Covid-19 lockdown exacerbated financial losses.
