Hyderabad: A woman was allegedly killed by her husband after he set her on fire in the Nallakunta area in the early hours of Wednesday, December 24.
The accused, identified as Venkatesh, reportedly attacked his wife, Triveni, at their residence while their children were present. When their daughter attempted to intervene, she was pushed aside. Hearing Triveni’s screams, neighbours rushed to the spot and shifted her to a hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The couple, originally from Huzurabad in Nalgonda district, had a love marriage and two children. According to police, Venkatesh was suspicious of his wife, which led to frequent disputes. Triveni had earlier gone to stay at her mother’s house due to harassment but later returned to Hyderabad after Venkatesh promised to change.
Speaking to the media, Nallakunta police said the incident occurred in the early hours of December 24. Venkatesh was taken into custody on Thursday and booked under Section 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). He is expected to be produced before the court on Friday.
Police clarified that the couple’s daughter is safe, as she managed to run out of the room during the incident.
