Hyd Water Supply Hit After Fatal Car Crash Damages Krishna Pipeline

The accident occurred around 3 am near Metro Pillar No. 813/814 on the Uppal-Nagole route

Hyderabad: A 24-year-old man, identified as Vineeth of Hayathnagar, died after a speeding Kia car rammed into an air-release valve of the Krishna drinking water pipeline near Nagole Metro Station in the early hours of Tuesday.

The accident occurred around 3 am near Metro Pillar No. 813/814 on the Uppal-Nagole route. The impact damaged the valve, sending water gushing more than 30 feet into the air, reportedly above the metro track and disrupting water supply to several areas of Hyderabad.

Thousands of litres of water flowed onto the roads for nearly four hours, flooding nearby areas and causing severe traffic congestion.

Police and fire services personnel rushed to the spot, while officials of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) began emergency repairs to fix the damaged pipeline infrastructure and restore supply.

The disruption has affected several localities, including BN Reddy Nagar, Uppal, Vanasthalipuram, Ramanthapur, Beerappagadda, Autonagar, Prakash Nagar, Begumpet, Padmarao Nagar, South Central Railway areas, Secunderabad, Cantonment, Lalaguda, Addagutta, Nallagutta, Mettuguda, Vaishalinagar, Meerpet, Badangpet, Balapur and Marredpally, among others.

Water board officials said tankers would be deployed to supply water to affected areas wherever necessary. Residents have also been urged to use water sparingly until normal supply is restored.
