Hyderabad: The Petbasheerabad police arrested one Bikshapathi who was operating an illegal liquor outlet from a house near the Vivekananda statue at Maisammaguda. Police seized about 135 litres of liquor from the premises. Bikshapathi was taken into custody and the liquor being sold without permits, was seized.
Chicken shop owner held for hunting deer, selling its meat
The Rajendranagar zone special operations team (SOT), with the Attapur detective department and Shamshabad range forest team, arrested Mohammed Irfan Uddin, a chicken shop owner, for allegedly hunting down a deer and trading in its meat.
Irfan’s alleged customer Mohammed Abu Hasan Ali evaded arrest and is absconding, police said. Preliminary investigations by the forest department revealed that the accused had hunted the deer in nearby forests. Irfan reportedly told the police he intended to sell the meat to Hasan Ali.
"We are conducting a comprehensive investigation to identify both forward and backward linkages in this poaching network," a forest official said. Police were verifying details of the weapons used for hunting, the vehicles employed for transport, and the role of accomplices.
Irfan was produced before the Rajendranagar court on December 31 and remanded to judicial custody.
Man found dead at home
A 30-year-old man was found dead by suicide at his residence in Sriramnagar in Kondapur, on Thursday, Gachibowli police said. The deceased, Kunchala Mallikarjuna, used to run a tea shop and had married in September last.
Police said the incident came to light around 11.30 am on January 1, when his sister noticed that the bathroom door was locked from inside for long. When he did not respond, the door was forced open, and Mallikarjuna was found dead inside.
According to the complaint, Mallikarjuna had returned home around 1.30 am in an intoxicated state and had an argument with his wife. The couple later went to sleep. His sister stated that Mallikarjuna may have been under distress following the argument. No suicide note was found at the scene, police said.
College friends die as bike hits lorry
Two persons died after their two-wheeler rammed into a parked truck in Narsingi on Wednesday, police said. While Kavya, a third-year BCA student at a private university in Moinabad, died on the spot, her college friend T. Kaushik Reddy, who was riding the bike, succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.
According to Narsingi police, Kaushik Reddy was riding from Aziznagar towards Kalimandir when, near the TGPA, he allegedly lost control of the vehicle reportedly due to speeding and “negligent driving” and crashed into a parked lorry.
“They were speeding and there was also a curve on that road. We suspect the incident occurred while the rider was trying to navigate through that curve,” investigating officer P. Mahendar said.
Woman tries to kill kids, end life, son survives
About 40 days after her husband died, his wife fed their children food laced with pesticide and died by suicide, police said on Thursday. The mother, Prasanna, succumbed along with her 13-year-old daughter, her 10-year-old son is fighting for his life at a hospital.
Police said it all began with a New Year celebration, with Prasanna and the children cutting a cake. They the consumed the poison-laced food at their house in Tilaknagar of Kalwakurthy in Nagarkurnool district.
Police said Prasanna had been unable to recover from the death of her husband Bheem Setty Prakash due to ill health. The bodies of Prasanna and her daughter were taken to a government hospital mortuary for postmortem and the son is under observation at a hospital, police said.
Blackmailed by uncle, says girl
A woman lodged a complaint with Banjara Hills police stating that her uncle, aunt and another woman had been blackmailing and behaving indecently with her, after threatening to place on social media her videos and pictures with her ex-boyfriend, police said.
The victim said her uncle had managed to obtain videos and photos in the past. Using those videos and pictures, the trio had been blackmailing and harassing her for the past few months. She said had confronted the trio who retaliated by attacking her and her family members.
Police recorded the victim's statement and registered a case of blackmail, outraging modesty and causing injuries against the trio. All names have been withheld to protect the victim’s identity.
Man dead in ORR smash, 3 injured
An electrician died and four others sustained minor injuries after their car rammed into another vehicle on the ORR near Taramatipet early on Thursday. Abdullapurmet police identified the deceased as Chinnam Venkatesham, an electrician from Edullagudem in Valigonda mandal of Yadadri Bhongir district.
Police said he was returning to his home with Guniganti Naresh, Lingaswamy, Kontham Srinu, and Guduru Sampath Reddy after completing some work. The others were injured in the accident that occurred around 2,15 am.
Police said Sampath Reddy was at the wheel and was attempting to overtake another vehicle but hit it from behind. The impact left Venkatesham dead on the spot.
The victim’s wife, Chinnam Padma, lodged a complaint stating that the accident occurred due to rash and negligent driving.
Gig worker dies as bikes skids
A 19-year-old gig worker died after sustaining a severe head injury when his two-wheeler skidded in Kondapur on Wednesday night, Gachibowli police said on Thursday. Gachibowli inspector K. Balaraju said the victim, Dadimala Shankar was travelling to his workplace from Sriramnagar to Kothaguda at around 10.30 pm.
The accident occurred near the Palapitta park. “Preliminary inquiry reveals his vehicle skidded and fell on the ground, leading to his death on the spot,” the inspector said.
Passersby stopped at the spot and, using the fingerprint on the victim’s mobile phone, unlocked it to contact the first number on the call list. The call was made to Ramu, a friend of the deceased, at 10.44 pm. Ramu informed the family.
