Hyderabad Man Booked Under POCSO for Sexually Harassing Daughter

Police register a case after the accused's wife complained of alleged abuse spanning three years.

HYDERABAD: A man has been booked under the Pocso Act for allegedly sexually harassing his minor daughter in Borabanda. Police said the accused had been threatening and harassing the girl for several months. The victim narrated her ordeal to a neighbour, who helped her lodge a complaint.

The accused, who has been detained, confessed to inappropriate behaviour and repeated harassment, police sources said.

Bharosa teams recorded the victim’s statement in the presence of her mother. She told police that her father threatened to kill her if she revealed the abuse. When her mother confronted him, he allegedly threatened to murder her as well.

Police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and began investigation. Officials said further legal action will follow based on the accused’s confession.


Inter student dies by suicide in SC girls hostel

A 17-year-old Intermediate first-year student allegedly died by suicide in the SC Girls' Hostel at Banswada in Kamareddy district on Wednesday, reportedly due to homesickness, police said.

A native of Laxmapur village in Madnur mandal, she was pursuing BPC first year at the Government Junior College, Banswada, and had been staying in the SC hostel for about a month. She had recently returned to the hostel after spending a few days at her home.

According to officials, the student spoke to her father twice on Wednesday morning. She took the extreme step after her roommates left for college.

Her roommates found her dead when they returned to the hostel in the afternoon and alerted the hostel staff, who informed the police and her family. Her father rushed to the hostel and took her body, which was later shifted to the Banswada Area Hospital for post-mortem.

Officials said Amrutha had spoken to her parents several times in recent days, but they could not visit the hostel because of agricultural work.

Revenue divisional officer M. Ravinder Reddy and DSP B. Vittal Reddy visited the hostel and enquired about the incident.

BRS activists staged a dharna at the hostel and later at Ambedkar Chowk, alleging negligence by the hostel authorities and demanding justice for the student. They withdrew the protest after officials assured them of government assistance to the family, including an outsourced job for one family member.

The body was handed over to the family after the post-mortem.

Student assaults principal after malpractice check

A student appearing for the second semester exams of B.R. Ambedkar Open University allegedly assaulted principal K. Buchaiah at the Government Degree College exam hall in Bhainsa of Nirmal district after he was questioned for malpractice on Tuesday afternoon, police said.

The accused was identified as Konga Srikanth. Police said he allegedly tore the question paper and answer sheet in the exam hall after the principal questioned him.

A CCTV clip of the alleged assault went viral on social media.

College staff staged a protest wearing black badges against the attack and lodged a complaint with the local police in the evening. Police registered a case against Srikanth and took up investigation.

Man, girlfriend's bid to die by suicide on train

A 34-year-old man and his girlfriend allegedly attempted to die by suicide on the Sabari Express near Cherlapally railway station while travelling with his wife to Hyderabad on Tuesday, police said.

The man was identified as Sirish Kumar, an autorickshaw driver from Chapra village in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh. His wife Sulochana and their two children also belong to the same village.

Police said Sirish Kumar had allegedly entered into a relationship with a married woman from the village, who had been staying at her sister’s house in Moosapet with her children as her husband was unwell. Sirish Kumar used to travel frequently between Srikakulam and Hyderabad to meet her.

The two had gone missing about a month ago. After learning that they were staying in Coimbatore, Sulochana went there with her relatives and brought them back.

On July 7, Sulochana, Sirish Kumar and the woman boarded the Sabari Express from Coimbatore to Hyderabad. When the train reached near Cherlapally around 11 am on Tuesday, Sirish Kumar and the woman went to the washroom and allegedly attempted to die by suicide.

Sulochana alerted Secunderabad RPF with the help of co-passengers. The two were shifted to Gandhi Hospital in an unconscious condition. Doctors told police that their condition was critical.

Transport dept warns against minors driving

The Telangana transport department has warned parents and guardians not to allow minors below 18 years to drive motor vehicles. Officials said strict action will be taken against owners or guardians who permit such offences.

Under Section 199 A of the Motor Vehicles Act, the registration of the vehicle used by a minor will be cancelled for 12 months. The juvenile will also be barred from getting a driving licence until the age of 25.

During the last financial year, 4,070 vehicle registrations were cancelled across Telangana for allowing minors to drive, showing the seriousness of enforcement.

The department appealed to parents not to hand over vehicle keys to children, stressing both public safety and the severe legal consequences — including cancellation of registration and a long delay in licence eligibility.

Case against sarpanch for relocating 100 stray dogs

Dharmasagar police of Warangal registered a case against the village sarpanch, her husband and the panchayat secretary after a complaint alleged that about 100 stray and community dogs were caught with crude metal wires, loaded into a vehicle and abandoned in a nearby forest in Hanumakonda district.

The FIR was registered on July 7, under the BNS and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. The alleged incident took place on July 6 at Dharmasagar village and the complainant, Adulapuram Goutham from Stray Animal Foundation of India told police that the accused had reportedly engaged a private dog catcher for the operation. The FIR says the dogs were caught using crude metal wires, which caused “severe bodily pain, visible puncture/cut injuries and immense physical suffering” to the animals.

An FIR says that dumping the captured dogs deep inside the forest has exposed them to dehydration, starvation, attacks by wild animals and possible death.

Goutham said that on July 6 he had spoken to the sarpanch’s husband who admitted that the dogs had been moved to the forest. Sub-inspector L. Dileep registered the case and took up investigation.

Man finds lizard in sambar at Adilabad eatery

A customer allegedly found a lizard in sambar served with dosa at a tiffin centre near Maheshwari Theatre in Adilabad town on July 7.

The customer, Rajesh, said he noticed the lizard in the bowl after being served food at the eatery, identified as Badam Juice Bar, and lodged a complaint with the police. Police reached the spot and initiated an inquiry. The customer was also sent for medical examination as a precaution.

Rajesh alleged that the hotel owner responded negligently when the issue was brought to his notice.

Property offender arrested; ₹10 lakh stolen property recovered

Mehdipatnam police team arrested a property offender and recovered stolen items worth ₹10 lakh on Wednesday. The recovered items include 157.8 grams of gold ornaments, a two-wheeler and net cash of ₹12,000, totally valued at ₹10 lakh.

“We received a complaint from Rajitha Srinivas Godari, 45, resident of Siri Priya Residency, P.S. Nagar, Masab Tank on June 30 regarding the missing items. Our teams examined CCTV footage and identified one Biyya Shashidhar, 28, an aggregator bike driver,” said S. Mallesh, SHO Mehdipatnam police station.

Shashidhar, a friend of the complainant’s niece, frequently visited her house and had closely observed the house layout and noticed valuables kept in the almirah, Mallesh said.

On the pretext of helping sell the complainant’s car, the accused visited the house, entered the room on the pretext of fetching car keys and used the available keys to unlock the almirah and steal the gold ornaments, SHO said.

The accused subsequently sold the stolen gold at the Secunderabad gold market and fled to Goa, where he spent a portion of the money. We tracked him on his return to the city, arrested him, recovered the stolen items and produced him before the court for judicial remand, he said.

Retired man held for illegal wine unit

Excise officials from the Malkajgiri District Task Force busted an illegal homemade wine unit in Neredmet and seized 377.7 litres of wine along with 502 bottles, valued at around ₹1.5 lakh.

The accused, identified as Antony Peter, a retired man, had reportedly learned wine making techniques from YouTube tutorials. He was manufacturing seven varieties of fruit wine and selling 750 ml bottles for ₹300 in areas including Neredmet, Secunderabad, NHO and Kapra.

Officials said the unit had been operating for nearly a year. The accused has been handed over to the Kapra Excise Station for further legal action.

EOW probes ₹500 crore Share Bazaar scam after director's death

A crucial turning point in the Share Bazaar scam has emerged following the accidental death of company director Atlur Prasanna in the United States.

Prasanna, who had served as director of Share Bazaar Company for six years, died in a fatal road accident after her car was rear ended by a truck. She had travelled to America on behalf of the company.

Police said Prasanna was named in a case registered by the Cyberabad Economic Offences Wing (EOW) in connection with a ₹500 crore scam involving Share Bazaar and Kisan Parivar. The case relates to fraudulent collections from over 13,000 victims across the country.

Investigators said Ramawat Bhupal Naik, already arrested by Gujarat police, was brought to Cyberabad on a PT warrant. He allegedly lured investors with promises of high interest returns. During questioning, Bhupal disclosed Prasanna’s involvement, though police are yet to officially confirm her role.

The EOW is continuing its probe, with further details expected to be disclosed after legal scrutiny.

Mahbubnagar survey superintendent held in bribe case

The sleuths of Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau on Wednesday arrested Bommireddy Venkateshwar Reddy, superintendent, survey and land records, in connection with a bribe case.

Venkateshwar Reddy allegedly demanded and accepted a bribe of `15,000 from the complainant for a favour of putting up the file to the assistant director, survey and land records for carrying out corrections in the village map pertaining to Karvena village, Boothpur mandal, Mahbubnagar district.

Doctor looks for trading online, loses ₹86 L

A doctor was duped of ₹86 lakh by the scammers in an online investment fraud. Besides, using the name of Union finance minister, the fraudsters gained confidence of the victim.

According to cybercrime police, the 76-year-old victim lodged a complaint with the Meerpet police, alleging that he came in contact with the crooks through social media after he clicked on a link which took him to an investment advertisement.

The fraudsters allegedly showed fake profit updates and also put on display the Union minister’s alleged investment and thereby gaining confidence of the victim.

In the complaint, the victim further stated that he received calls from the fraudsters claiming that they represented a venture capital firm and convinced him to open a Demat account. After that the money was transferred in multiple instalments under the guise of registration, trading, commissions, banking charges, SEBI fee and taxes.

Sensing fraud, the doctor lodged the complaint with Hyderabad Cybercrime Police. A case was registered and further probe was ongoing.

“We are probing the case and efforts are on to identify the servers used by the crooks,” a cybercrime officer said on Wednesday.

Principal booked for sexual assault bid on student

An MBA graduate from a PG college in Kollapur town of Nagarkurnool district alleged that he was sexually assaulted by the institution’s principal when he went to collect his Transfer Certificate. The incident came to light on Wednesday.

According to Kollapur police, the student, a native of Jagtial district, had completed his MBA from the college affiliated to Palamuru University in 2025. He visited the college on July 6 to collect his certificate and met principal Dr Marke Poloneyes, who allegedly asked him to come to his room late at night.

The student told police that the principal attempted to force him into sexual acts and subjected him to harassment. He claimed that during the assault he managed to escape after resisting, and raised an alarm. Students rushed to the spot and found the principal in a compromising state.

Following the commotion, the principal reportedly fled the college. Student unions staged a protest and lodged a complaint with the police. The college management has suspended the principal.

Police said the victim’s statement has been recorded and a case registered. They are verifying allegations that the principal had a history of harassing male students. “We will seek legal opinion and proceed further,” a senior officer said.

The principal has since been detained and his statement recorded. Police said details of the investigation will be disclosed to the media soon.


2 rape woman in Sec’bad

Two persons lured a woman victim to resolve her domestic problems, picked her up from Secunderabad and raped her.

According to Mahankali police, the victim after a tiff with her husband came to the city from Rajanna Sircilla district and was living in a rented house in Secunderabad.

The accused lured her with the promise of helping her participate in a television programme on family disputes, allegedly took her to a commercial building in Ranigunj, where they reportedly raped her.

The incident that was reported on Tuesday night, came into light on Wednesday after the victim lodged a complaint with the police. Police, who have recorded the victim’s statement and sent her for medical examination, reportedly detained the suspects for further legal action.
