Hyderabad: Man Arrested for Taking Pictures of Women Without Consent

When the women confronted him and checked his mobile phone, they allegedly found images that had been edited using an AI-based image editor for obscene purposes

Hyderabad: The Gachibowli police arrested a 53-year-old man for allegedly taking photographs of women without their consent and attempting to create vulgar images using artificial intelligence tools. The accused, Shahir Srikanth, 53, was a resident of BHEL MIG Colony, Serilingampally.
According to Gachibowli inspector K. Balraju, the incident came to light at about 9.15 pm on Saturday at Gowlidoddi, where the complainant, a woman residing in a PG hostel, noticed the accused taking photographs of women secretly. When the women confronted him and checked his mobile phone, they allegedly found images that had been edited using an AI-based image editor for obscene purposes.
“The accused was found attempting to create vulgar AI-generated images using the photographs taken without consent. When the women questioned him, he began harassing them,” inspector Balaraju said.
Police said a video recorded by one of the women showed dozens of photographs of women in the mobile phone of the accused, allegedly taken without their consent and then uploaded onto an artificial intelligence-based image-editing application. The video showed that the accused was attempting to alter the images to show the women in sexually explicit attire. The chat history visible in the recording showed repeated prompts for such altered images.
Based on a complaint lodged at around 11.30 pm the same night, the Gachibowli police registered a case and took up an investigation.
Police said the offence involved unauthorised photography, voyeurism and misuse of digital tools to create obscene content. The accused was arrested and his mobile phone was seized for forensic examination to verify the extent of misuse and whether similar incidents had occurred earlier.
Two Hyderabad-bound flights receive bomb threat
Two international flights arriving at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) received bomb threat emails on Saturday morning.
According to the RGIA outpost police, around 9 am, an email was received at GMR’s customer support claiming that a flight arriving from Jeddah was carrying a concealed explosive device and warning of an “imminent disaster”. Minutes later, a similar email was received with respect to a flight coming from Calicut to Hyderabad. Police said both emails carried identical content and language.
Airport authorities alerted security agencies and standard operating procedures were followed. The aircraft were checked after landing and no suspicious object was found, police said.
An official with the airport police station said the emails were sent through Outlook accounts and appeared to be part of a pattern of repetitive, non-specific threats. “Such emails have been coming repeatedly and do not mention any concrete details. However, FIRs are being registered for every threat email,” the official said.
Police said bomb threat emails have been received on alternate days this week. In the past three months alone, RGIA police have registered around 30 cases related to hoax bomb threats, including the two received on Saturday.
Cybercrime police have taken up the investigation. So far, no breakthrough has been reported, the official revealed.
