Hyderabad: Liquor Quarrel Ends in Wife's Death

Police identified the victim as Aruna and the accused as her husband, Kondanna, who has been arrested

Hyderabad: A 28-year-old homemaker was allegedly murdered by her husband at their house in Vinayaknagar after she threatened to commit suicide to stop him from drinking liquor, Filmnagar police said on Saturday.

Filmnagar detective inspector J. Venkat, quoting the complaint, said Kondanna returned home drunk at around 8.30 pm on Friday. When Aruna threatened to take her life, Kondanna allegedly rushed towards her and killed her. The police have described it as an alleged murder following a domestic quarrel, but the precise manner of killing has not been detailed yet.
The couple is survived by three children. Police said Kondanna was jobless and his drinking habit had been causing frequent quarrels.
The complaint was lodged by houseowner Repani Srikanth, who was alerted by the victim’s younger son and rushed to the scene.
700 drunk drivers booked
Nearly 700 drunk drivers were booked by the Hyderabad and Cyberabad police over the weekend.
In Hyderabad, of the 356 drunk drivers booked, 302 were two-wheeler riders, said D. Joel Davis, joint commissioner (Traffic). At the higher end of the scale, seven drivers were found with blood alcohol content (BAC) between 251 and 300 micrograms, and three above 300, against the legal limit of 30.
In Cyberabad, traffic police booked 340 drunk drivers, of whom 275 were two-wheeler riders. Among them, 21 had BAC levels ranging from 301 to 550 micrograms of alcohol per 100 ml of blood. All offenders were produced before court.
Labourer dies after suspected asthma attack
A 45-year-old labourer, M. Dasrath, died allegedly after suffering an asthma attack and falling into a drainage pit at the ABSL construction company’s labour camp in Nanakramguda, Gachibowli, early on Sunday morning.
Dasrath, a native of West Bengal, had been working at the site for the past month and was residing at the labour camp attached to the construction site. The incident came to light around 5 am when he was found missing from his room. Locals later discovered his body lying in a drainage pit.
Police said the deceased may have suffered an asthma attack before falling into the pit. A case has been registered under Section 194 of the BNSS. The body was shifted to the Osmania mortuary for post-mortem examination. Further investigation is underway.
Driver dies after lorry falls off flyover
A 32-year-old ready-mix concrete (RMC) lorry driver died after his vehicle fell off the Movie Tower flyover on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) in Gachibowli, allegedly after dozing off while driving, early on Sunday morning. He succumbed to injuries two days later at Osmania General Hospital.
The deceased, Anup Kumar, a native of Uttar Pradesh, had been residing in Patancheru and working with Sri Sai Ready Mix Concrete for the past several months.
According to a complaint lodged by his younger brother, Sooryanarayana, the accident occurred around 3.30 am on January 30, when Anup was driving towards Kokapet from Patancheru. Police said he suffered severe internal injuries, with the steering wheel reportedly striking his abdomen and chest.
Anup was initially taken to a private hospital in Patancheru and later shifted to OGH after his condition worsened. Following his death, the body was moved to the Osmania mortuary for post-mortem examination.
A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
