Hyderabad Heavy Rain Warning: Police Issue Safety Advisory

Sajjanar urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Meteorological Centre on Monday issued an orange alert for Kamareddy, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Medak, and Sangareddy districts, forecasting moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.

According to weather officials, light to moderate thundershowers with gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 40 kmph are also expected across several other districts, including Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Nizamabad, Nalgonda, Khammam, Warangal, and Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, among others.

With heavy downpours expected during evening peak hours, authorities have advised commuters—particularly those heading home from offices—to take necessary precautions and plan their travel accordingly to avoid traffic disruptions and waterlogging.

In view of the weather department’s warning that heavy rains are likely to lash the city until tonight, everyone must remain extremely cautious, City Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar cautioned on Monday.

Sajjanar urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel unless it is an emergency and to avoid stepping out of their homes. Those already outside should quickly complete their work before the rain intensifies and return home safely, he said. Travel on waterlogged roads or through low-lying areas prone to flooding is absolutely unsafe, Sajjanar said. Drivers must reduce speed, take necessary precautions in emergencies, stay alert and ensure everyone reaches home safely, he added.
