Hyderabad Food Safety Raids: Al Saba Restaurant Shut in Gachibowli; Lapses Found in Multiple Eateries

Food safety inspections found hygiene lapses at several eateries in Hyderabad, while Al Saba Restaurant in Gachibowli was ordered to stop operations.

Food safety teams found expired food, pest-infested suji, poorly stored meat and hygiene lapses during inspections at eateries in Ghatkesar, Pocharam, Chintal and Gachibowli, while one restaurant was ordered to stop operations.

Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation said expired sauces were found at Akshith’s Tandoori Fusion Dhaba in Ghatkesar. Cooked meat and other food kept in poor condition, along with food colours, were discarded. Inspectors found greasy flooring, dusty walls and roof, unhygienic freezers and poor ventilation. An improvement notice was recommended, and the outlet scored 72 per cent on hygiene.

Inspection notes recorded expired mushrooms at Sree Parivaar Multicuisine Restaurant, about six kg of storage-pest-infested suji at Vedhasree Hotel and Hospitality Services, or Tulips Hotel, and housefly infestation at R. Royal Bawarchi. The suji and food colours were discarded. Hygiene scores were 88 per cent for Sree Parivaar, 95 per cent for Tulips Hotel and 75 per cent for R. Royal Bawarchi.

The inspections found missing pest-control records, absent medical fitness certificates, greasy floors, poor ventilation, badly maintained freezers, untrained food handlers and inadequate dustbins.

Elsewhere, the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) ordered Al Saba Restaurant in Gachibowli to stop operations over “serious food safety and hygiene violations”. It will remain closed until it complies with the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and receives clearance. “Food safety is non-negotiable,” CMC said.

At KS Bakers Private Limited in Chintal, awarded 96 per cent, the FSSAI licence for transport vehicles was unavailable during inspection, while food-grade packaging certificates and internal audit reports were not maintained. The operator was told to correct the deficiencies.
