RGIA crime inspector Pawan Kumar identified the deceased as Chinnaraju Narayana Swamy, a contractor residing at a hostel locally.

Hyderabad: A contractor was found dead with multiple injuries after he was allegedly mauled by stray dogs and wild pigs in an isolated area under the RGIA Shamshabad police station limits in the early hours of Saturday.

Police went to the spot along with the Clues Team and collected forensic evidence, including footprints of pigs and stray dogs from the scene.

RGIA crime inspector Pawan Kumar identified the deceased as Chinnaraju Narayana Swamy, a contractor residing at a hostel locally. He was a native of Pudukkottai district in Tamil Nadu. Police said preliminary investigation suggested that the victim, who was in unconscious due to intoxication, was mauled to death by pigs and stray dogs.

A case of unnatural death has been registered under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police said they are probing all angles, including the possibility of a deliberate assault. The body was shifted to the Osmania General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.

4 hurt in clashes over land row

Hyderabad: Four youths were injured in a clash, which also involved attacks on police officials, over an alleged land grabbing issue, at Ekashila Venture in Ghatkesar on Saturday.

The violence broke out following a dispute between plot owners of Ekashila Venture and a real estate businessman, Venkatesh, who had purchased land in the venture. For the past few years, plot-owners have alleged that supporters of the businessman were not allowing them to enter their plots and were guarding the area.

In earlier instances, cases had been registered against some of these supporters at the Pocharam police station on charges of threatening and abusing plot owners.

To prevent any untoward incidents, the police had previously deployed pickets in the surrounding areas of Ekashila Venture. Tensions resurfaced on Friday when plot owners blocked officials who had arrived to conduct a survey of the venture and staged a protest.

On Saturday, the situation escalated further when some plot owners went to the venture and were allegedly stopped by the businessman's followers. This led to a scuffle between the two groups, which soon turned violent. When police personnel from Pocharam police station arrived to disperse the crowd and restore order, they were allegedly attacked with iron rods.

Four youths sustained serious injuries in the clash and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police said both groups lodged complaints against each other, based on which cases were registered at Pocharam and Medipalli police stations.

An official response from both the police stations is awaited.

Sushmita's family seeks probe into dowry torture

Hyderabad: Bodies of Sushmita, 27, who died allegedly by suicide after poisoning her 11-month-old son in Meerpet, were handed over to their maternal family, who continue to allege foul play. Meanwhile, Sushmita’s mother Lalitha, who had attempted to die by suicide, remains unconscious and is undergoing treatment, Meerpet inspector Kashivishwanath told Deccan Chronicle.

The inspector said that while the family alleged that Sushmitha was being harassed for dowry by her husband Yeshwanth Reddy, police would take any action, including arresting him, only after recording Lalitha's statement.

The husband, a chartered accountant, denied the allegations publicly. He told the police that before the death, there was a minor argument between the couple and nothing more. He alleged that he called his wife and mother-in-law 20 times when she failed to open the door. He reportedly broke the window open and discovered the death. "I have no reason to harm my wife or child. My in-laws are cornering me," he reportedly stated.

Relatives of the deceased have questioned the sequence of events narrated by the husband. The woman's paternal uncle, Sanjeeva Reddy, alleged that the husband made a video call around 8.22 pm on the day of the incident and showed them the bodies of Sushmita and the child. "He was shouting that even if he was hanged, it did not matter," he claimed.

Family members also raised doubts over the report that Sushmita may have died by suicide. " We strongly suspect she was killed and her death was later staged as a suicide," the uncle alleged, demanding a detailed probe.

Sanjeeva Reddy added that he had raised Sushmita. She reportedly had property worth Rs.15 crore registered in her name.

Another relative alleged that the woman had been subjected to repeated harassment over minor domestic issues. "She was troubled daily over food and other trivial matters. We want to know what really happened inside the house," she said.
