Constable Dies by Suicide Inside LB Nagar Police Station

The deceased was identified as Constable Sai Kumar. According to reports, he was on night duty and was found hanging from a ceiling fan at the police station in the morning.

HYDERABAD: A 26‑year‑old police constable attached to the e‑COPS wing of LB Nagar allegedly died by suicide at the ACP office on Tuesday night, triggering protests by his family who alleged harassment by superiors, caste‑based targeting and excessive workload.

The deceased, Jarpula Sai Kumar, a 2024‑batch constable, was tasked with compiling FIR details under the LB Nagar Zone ACP. His family said he was keen on field duties but was confined to desk work. A native of Chinna Thanda in Manchal mandal, Rangareddy district, Sai Kumar was the youngest of four siblings and the only one to pursue higher studies.

His cousin alleged that he was discriminated against on caste grounds and denied field assignments. On Tuesday night, while on duty, Sai Kumar failed to respond when asked to submit the Daily Situation Report. Staff later found him hanging from a ceiling fan. He was declared dead at a hospital and the body was shifted to Osmania General Hospital.

Angry relatives vandalised the ACP office and staged a protest, demanding justice. They alleged harassment and raised suspicion over CCTV cameras not working and his mobile phone being handed over after four hours.

An acquaintance recalled his ambition to crack civil services exams and said he had purchased books for preparation.

The government announced an Indiramma Illu, a job for one family member and ₹10 lakh ex‑gratia.
