Hyderabad: Centre Ensures Fertiliser Supplies For Telangana

The Centre’s ability to maintain ample stocks reflects the Modi government’s commitment to protecting farmers’ interests: Kishan Reddy

HYDERABAD: Union coal minister G. Kishan Reddy said the Centre has ensured adequate supplies of fertilisers — including urea, DAP and NPK — for Telangana this Kharif season despite global challenges. He credited higher domestic urea production, procurement of natural gas from spot markets and timely imports for meeting demand.

In a statement, Kishan Reddy said the Ramagundam Fertilizers & Chemicals Limited (RFCL) plant is functioning at full capacity and that production issues seen during the previous Rabi season have been resolved. This, he added, guarantees smooth production and timely supplies to Telangana farmers.

While the Centre is providing sufficient allocations and replenishing stocks, Kishan Reddy said efficient last‑mile distribution is the responsibility of the state government. He urged the state to ensure equitable distribution across districts, prevent diversion of subsidised fertilisers to non‑agricultural uses, curb hoarding and black marketing, and make sure every genuine farmer receives supplies on time.

Kishan Reddy said the Centre’s ability to maintain ample stocks reflects the Modi government’s commitment to protecting farmers’ interests. He cited last Rabi season figures: Against a projected urea requirement of 10.40 lakh metric tonnes (LMT), the Centre made 12.01 LMT available; for DAP, 2.55 LMT was supplied against a requirement of 1.45 LMT; and 9.47 LMT of NPK was supplied versus a requirement of 7.00 LMT. Supplies were maintained above projections to prevent disruption.

He added that the same proactive approach continues in the current Kharif season. Urea allocations have already exceeded projected requirements, and adequate stocks of DAP and NPK are being maintained through continuous monitoring and timely allocations, he said.
