Hyderabad CCS Busts Illegal Drug Racket, Two Held with 77,700 Tablets and Cough Syrup Bottles

Nitravate tablets and Choco cough syrups worth ₹10 lakh seized; six accused absconding, police warn against misuse of prescription drugs

Hyderabad: The Special Crime Team of the Commissioner’s Task Force (CCS), in coordination with Habeeb Nagar Police, busted an illegal drug supply racket in the city and apprehended two persons for possessing large quantities of prescription drugs without authorization.

The arrested have been identified as Mohammed Sarvar alias Raheem (30), a driver, and Mohammed Rabbani (32), a band master, both residents of Mangar Basthi in Afzal Sagar, Mallepally. Six other accused, including individuals from Bidar, are currently absconding.

Acting on credible information, the police conducted a raid on July 17 and seized a huge cache of drugs, including 77,700 Nitravate tablets of different brands and 170 bottles of Choco+ cough syrup. The total value of the seized material is estimated at around ₹10 lakh.

Investigations revealed that the accused were procuring these prescription medicines from sources in Bidar and selling them illegally in Hyderabad at high prices without any valid authorization. The drugs were reportedly being misused by habitual offenders and youth to achieve intoxication and a temporary high.

Police said these tablets are generally prescribed for treating severe insomnia, chest pain, and certain seizure disorders, while the cough syrup is used for dry cough. However, misuse can lead to dizziness, confusion, drowsiness, and impaired coordination, potentially enabling criminal activities.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of Inspector Ch. Sudhakar Rao of the Special Crime Team along with Habeeb Nagar Police.

Hyderabad City Police have cautioned the public against purchasing medicines from unauthorized sources and urged citizens to report any illegal sale or distribution of drugs. Authorities reiterated that strict action will be taken against those involved in such activities.
