Hyderabad: CCS Arrests Woman For Cheating Depositors Of Rs 2 Crore

CCS police launched a manhunt and finally traced and arrested Sri Lakshmi. She was produced in court on Tuesday and remanded to 14-day judicial custody. Meanwhile, a search has been intensified for her husband, Satya Prasad, who is still on the run.

Hyderabad: A woman accused of duping depositors of over Rs 2 crore by promising high returns was arrested by the Central Crime Station (CCS) police on Tuesday after being on the run for a year.

According to police, K. Srilakshmi, a native of Guntur district, was living in a rented house in Nandi Nagar, Banjara Hills Road No. 14, with her husband, Satyaprasad. She developed close friendships with the landlord and neighbours and collected lakhs of rupees from them under the pretext of seeking a loan to pay for her daughter's education. Although she had initially promised the victims that she would repay the money, she failed to repay despite repeated requests.

Srilakshmi, along with her husband Satya Prasad, also allegedly collected money from people by promising high returns. She particularly targeted residents of Nandi Nagar and the Banjara Hills area in the city. For some time, she stalled the victims by claiming she would return the funds. After collecting around Rs 2 crore, the couple abruptly shut operations and absconded.

Realising they had been cheated, the victims lodged a complaint at Banjara Hills Police Station a year ago. Police registered a cheating case and began an investigation. As the number of victims increased, the department took cognisance and transferred the case from Banjara Hills Police Station to the CCS.

Taking up the case on priority, CCS police launched a manhunt and finally traced and arrested Sri Lakshmi. She was produced in court on Tuesday and remanded to 14-day judicial custody. Meanwhile, a search has been intensified for her husband, Satya Prasad, who is still at large.
