Hyderabad: In a major breakthrough, police have solved the sensational ATM cash theft case within two days, where the two accused, including the ATM cash van driver Srinivas, have been arrested, while special teams have been deployed to trace another suspect who is absconding.
According to the IS Sadan Police Station police, the incident took place on June 23 when ATM cash replenishment staff arrived at an ATM kiosk in the Rain Bazaar–Santosh Nagar area to load cash into the machine. While the staff carried a cash trunk box into the ATM centre, the cash van was left parked outside.
Two men arrived on a motorcycle and allegedly made away with a cash trunk containing Rs17 lakh from the van. Soon after the theft, the van driver Srinivas also went missing, raising suspicions about his possible involvement in the crime.
Treating the case as a priority, police launched an intensive investigation and examined CCTV footage from the area. During the probe, investigators found evidence pointing to the driver's role in the theft. Srinivas was subsequently taken into custody and questioned and the other accused was also arrested.
Police believe the theft was carried out according to a pre-planned conspiracy and are gathering further evidence and working to recover the stolen cash and trace the third accused.
