Hyd Remembers 1971 War Heroes
At the Veerula Sainik Smarak in Secunderabad, senior civil and military leaders joined veterans and families of fallen soldiers to honour the sacrifice of personnel who fought in the Bangladesh Liberation War

Hyderabad: The 1971 Indo-Pak war, which reshaped the region and affirmed India’s military resolve, was recalled here and tributes paid to soldiers who laid down their lives for the nation, on Tuesday.
At the Veerula Sainik Smarak in Secunderabad, senior civil and military leaders joined veterans and families of fallen soldiers to honour the sacrifice of personnel who fought in the Bangladesh Liberation War. Vijay Diwas is observed every year to remember India’s decisive victory in the 13-day conflict that led to the creation of Bangladesh.
Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and Major General Ajay Misra, General Officer Commanding of the Telangana and Andhra Sub Area, laid wreaths at the memorial. Officials from the ministry of defence, ex-servicemen and relatives of the bravehearts were present.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Governor said the courage and selflessness displayed by Indian soldiers in 1971 continued to define the nation’s values.
Mallu said Vijay Diwas served as a reminder that national security was built on the sacrifices of the armed forces.
Maj. Gen. Misra said the Indian Army remained guided by the values demonstrated during the 1971 war.
The observance concluded with a moment of silence in memory of the fallen, the continuing bond between the armed forces and civil society in honouring India’s war heroes and preserving their legacy for future generations.
