HRDA Urges KNRUHS to Act Against KIMS Over Illegal MBBS Fee Collection
HRDA has urged KNRUHS to take action against KIMS, alleging illegal fifth-year MBBS fee collection and coercive measures against students.
The Healthcare Reforms Doctors Association (HRDA), Telangana, has urged the Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) to initiate immediate action against Kamineni Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), Narketpally, over alleged illegal collection of fifth-year MBBS tuition fee and coercive measures against students.
In a representation submitted to the university Vice Chancellor on Thursday, HRDA said it had received complaints from parents and guardians of MBBS students of the 2022 and 2024 batches alleging that the college was collecting the entire fifth-year tuition fee while students were still pursuing their fourth academic year.
Deccan Chronicle approached the KIMS management, principal and vice-principal and received no response on the association’s claims.
The association pointed out that KNRUHS, through its letter dated April 21, 2026, issued in compliance with a National Medical Commission (NMC) public notice dated April 7, 2026, had directed all affiliated medical colleges to calculate MBBS tuition fees only for four and a half years and collect them in five equal instalments. The university had also warned that violations would invite strict action.
Despite these directions, HRDA alleged, KIMS was demanding and collecting the disputed fee and resorting to coercive practices, including denying hostel accommodation despite payment of hostel fees, threatening hostel students with eviction, and preventing day scholars from entering the campus and attending classes unless the fee was paid. If true, such actions would be arbitrary and in violation of KNRUHS directions, the association said.
