Himayatsagar Reservoir Gates Opened, Initial Release Put at 1,000 Cusecs of Water

Anticipating rise in inflows, HMWS&SB managing director Ashok Reddy has directed Water Board officials and the administration of Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts to remain on alert.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) opened the floodgates of the Himayatsagar reservoir at 6 pm on Sunday, to regulate the water levels, following increased inflows triggered by continuous rainfall in the catchment areas of the twin reservoirs and the forecast of further rain by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

In the initial phase, a maximum of 1,000 cusecs of water was discharged downstream.

Anticipating rise in inflows, HMWS&SB managing director Ashok Reddy has directed Water Board officials and the administration of Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts to remain on alert. Officials from HYDRAA, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), and the police have also been instructed to take necessary precautionary measures as water is released from the reservoir.
