Hyderabad: The HMWS&SB on Monday kept open the floodgates of the Himayatsagar reservoir and began releasing water downstream following a rise in inflows due to continuous rainfall in the catchment areas and India Meteorological Department forecasts of further rainfall.
The floodgates were opened at 6 pm on Sunday. In the initial phase, up to 1,000 cusecs of water was being released downstream and the flow was smooth, the board said.
The Himayatsagar has a full reservoir level (FRL) of 1,763.5 ft with a storage capacity of 2.521 tmc ft. The water level currently stood at 1,762 ft, with a storage of 2.3 tmc ft. The reservoir was receiving 250 cusecs of inflow and releasing 670 cusecs before the gates were opened.
