High Court Raps Miyapur Police for Not Probing Complaint Filed by Doctor Couple

Justice N.V. Shravan Kumar passed the order while disposing of a writ petition filed by the couple, challenging the inaction of the Miyapur police on multiple complaints submitted by them since December 2024.

Hyderabad:The Telangana High Court has directed the Cyberabad police commissioner to personally supervise the inquiry into complaints lodged by an elderly doctor couple from Miyapur, who are facing charges of sexually harassing their daughter since she was a minor.

Justice N.V. Shravan Kumar passed the order while disposing of a writ petition filed by the couple, challenging the inaction of the Miyapur police on multiple complaints submitted by them since December 2024.

The case arose from a criminal complaint filed by the couple’s daughter against her parents under the Pocso Act and other provisions, alleging sexual abuse. The police registered the case, completed the investigation and filed a chargesheet based on the daughter’s complaint.

Subsequently, the parents submitted several petitions and complaints alleging that their daughter, who they claimed suffered from mental health issues and was under medication, was acting under the influence of her partner and had falsely implicated them. They alleged that the partner, with whom the daughter is was a live-in relationship, was exploiting her under the guise of love to grab the family’s property.

The petitioners contended that despite repeated representations, the Miyapur police, the home department and senior police officials had ignored their complaints for nearly a year, closing them citing lack of evidence. Taking serious note of this, the High Court on earlier occasion questioned the validity of ignoring the parents’ complaints after having acted promptly on the daughter’s allegations.

The court had found fault with the home secretary, the Director General of Police and the Miyapur station house Officer for failing to act on the parents’ petitions and summoned the SHO personally to explain the investigation.

Justice Shravan Kumar observed that once the police had registered a case and filed a chargesheet on the daughter’s complaint, they were equally duty-bound to accept and investigate the complaints filed by the parents with the same diligence. The court expressed concern over directions allegedly issued to secretly monitor the daughter, noting that such actions raised doubts about the fairness of the investigation.

Considering the sensitive nature of the matter, the court suggested that the Madhapur DCP, a woman officer, would be appropriate to handle the inquiry. The court directed the Cyberabad police commissioner to consider the complaints filed in December 2024, April and June 2025 by the parents, supervise the inquiry and take appropriate legal action strictly in accordance with law, as expeditiously as possible.
