Heavy to Very Heavy Rains Forecast in Northern Telangana
A low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal has intensified and is moving towards north coastal Andhra and south Odisha, the IMD said.

Hyderabad: The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy to very heavy rains in northern Telangana districts on Friday and Saturday. A low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal has intensified and is moving towards north coastal Andhra and south Odisha, the IMD said. Along with this, a surface circulation and a trough are also causing widespread rainfall across the state.
An orange alert has been issued for several districts, with very heavy rains likely in 12 districts on Friday. From Wednesday to Thursday morning, Kalwakurthi in Nagarkurnool district recorded the state’s heaviest rainfall at 20 cm. Heavy showers also lashed Vikarabad, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Suryapet, Khammam, Wanaparthy, Nalgonda, Mahabubnagar and Mulugu districts.
Colonies Submerged
Suryapet district received 6.62 cm of rainfall, paralysing normal life. Streams and canals overflowed, with Mellacheruvu recording 12.60 cm, Atmakur (S) 11.01 cm, Palakaveedu 10.60 cm and Nadigudem 10.13 cm. Traffic was disrupted between Anantagiri and Kodad as Kodad Peddacheruvu overflowed, submerging several colonies. The Paleru stream also overflowed at Urlugonda in Mote mandal, while floodwaters entered colonies in Huzurnagar and Suryapet town.
In Mulugu district, a 60-year-old ASHA worker, Irpa Lakshmi of Lakshmipuram village in Venkatapuram mandal, was swept away in a stream and died. Vikarabad district reported incessant rainfall, flooding several irrigation projects and cutting off roads. Cotton, sugarcane, maize and vegetable crops were extensively damaged.
