Heavy Rains Trigger Floods Across Adilabad
Crops damaged, vehicles washed away

Adilabad: Heavy rains lashed several parts of the erstwhile Adilabad district on Saturday, leading to heavy inflows into irrigation projects amid downpours in the upstream regions of Maharashtra.
Streams and rivulets were overflowing, while tanks and lift irrigation projects too received significant inflows. The Pranahita, Penganga and Godavari rivers swelled due to the upstream rains.
The district administrations and police monitored the flood situation in Nirmal, Mancherial, Adilabad and Komaram Bheem Asifabad districts. District disaster response force and NDRF teams carried out rescue operations at various locations.
Low-lying areas were inundated. Floodwaters entered colonies in Mancherial town from the backwaters of the Godavari. Water was released from the Yellampalli project as also downstream from Kadam, Mattadi vagu, Sathnala, Komaram Bheem, and Sripada Yellampalli projects.
At Kadam, 18 crest gates were lifted, releasing 1.5 lakh cusecs downstream, while the inflow was around 90,000 cusecs.
The water-level reached 694 metres against the full reservoir capacity of 700 metres. At Yellampalli, 20 out of 62 gates were lifted, with water levels reaching 146.63 metres against a capacity of 148 metres. Heavy inflows continued from Kadam and other catchment areas. Sathnala and Mathadi vagu projects also released water by lifting four gates each.
The Gaddanna vagu project in Mudhole mandal too received heavy inflows.
Floodwaters inundated houses, colonies, and standing crops across Komaram Bheem and Mancherial districts. Roads were submerged, disrupting traffic at multiple points. Traffic came to a halt on the main road between Utnoor and Adilabad due to a breach near the Triveni Sangamam project at Muthnoor, causing long blockages on both sides in Indravelli.
Crops were also submerged following the overflow of the Chikman vagu.
On the Adilabad-Mancherial route, traffic was affected when a tree fell on the main road near Danthanpalli in Utnoor mandal. A family travelling in a car had a narrow escape, with locals rescuing them by removing branches from the vehicle.
Floodwaters entered colonies in Prabhudhnagar, Shastrinagar and Bheemnagar in Indravelli mandal. Floodwater entered the premises of a residential school for girls in Ichoda, though students remained safe inside their rooms. Boath MLA Anil Jadhav visited the school.
Adilabad MLA Payal Shankar visited low-lying colonies such as Thirpelli, Mahalakshmiwada and GS Estate, where floodwaters entered houses. He also visited Ankoli, Thantoli and Yapalguda villages in the Adilabad Rural mandal, where floods disrupted normal life and inundated crops.
Vehicles were stranded in floodwaters at Tharanam bridge in Jainad mandal, but the drivers and cleaners managed to escape.
In Khoja Colony, Adilabad town, a parked car was washed away by floodwaters.
