Heavy Rains Trigger Flooding in Adilabad
Holidays declared for schools, 4 gates lifted at Kadam

ADILABAD: Streams and rivulets flowed high with floodwaters following heavy rains in the erstwhile Adilabad district on Wednesday. The Penganga, Pranahita, and Godavari rivers received heavy inflows due to intense rainfall in the upstream areas of Maharashtra.
The district collectors of Adilabad and Komaram Bheem Asifabad announced holidays for government primary and high schools to prevent untoward incidents in view of the weather alert.
At the Kadam project, four gates were lifted to release water downstream following heavy inflows, disrupting road connectivity to several villages. Forest department officials have restricted visitors from entering waterfalls, which are flowing dangerously high, while district officials have declared holidays for some local schools.
From the Komaram Bheem project, 4,194 cusecs of water were discharged downstream by lifting three gates. The water level stood at 5.629 TMC ft, with an inflow of 8,194 cusecs. Heavy rains lashed Dhanora village in Kerameri mandal, Komaram Bheem Asifabad district. In Buruguda village, Asifabad mandal, floodwaters surrounded the government school. The Nambala rivulet in Rebbena mandal and the Thatipelli vagu in Kautala mandal were flowing at high levels, while in Adilabad district, the Chikman rivulet was in spate in Sirikonda mandal.
The Rallavagu stream, merging with the Godavari backwaters in Mancherial town, also swelled, with the backwater entering several colonies, including Ramnagar.
Backwaters from the Palvai Purushotham Rao project entered Saligoan village in Nennela mandal. District collector Kumar Deepak visited the affected villages and interacted with residents. He also visited Chinna Thimmapur and Rajaram villages in Bheemini mandal, where roads were breached and culverts damaged due to floodwaters. Police were deployed at the Yerravagu stream in Bheemini mandal to prevent people from entering the water.
In Mancherial, officials set up a control room at the Integrated Collectorate Building in Naspur. Residents can report grievances or seek assistance by calling 08736-250501.
Adilabad collector Rajarshi Shah visited the Santhnala irrigation project and instructed officials to alert residents in low-lying areas and take measures to prevent loss of life and property. Adilabad SP Akhil Mahajan, DSP L. Jeevan Reddy, and irrigation officials were also present. The Mathadi vagu stream received heavy inflows following the rains.
