Heavy Rains Revive Warangal Farmers’ Kharif Hopes
Many farmers had already sown seeds and were struggling to keep them from drying out, even resorting to using water tankers and sprinklers

WARANGAL: Heavy rains that lashed the region from Tuesday morning brought significant relief to farmers in the erstwhile Warangal district. After a worrying delay in the monsoon season, the downpour has renewed hopes of a successful Kharif crop.
Many farmers had already sown seeds and were struggling to keep them from drying out, even resorting to using water tankers and sprinklers. The recent rainfall has provided the much-needed soil moisture, enabling them to intensify their agricultural operations.
The districts of Warangal, Mahbubabad, Jangaon, and Jayashankar Bhupalpally have received substantial rainfall, offering a sigh of relief to farmers across the region.
In a notable development, the Madannapet Lake in Narsampet, the second-largest lake in Warangal district after Pakhala Lake, is overflowing due to the heavy rains. Farmers in the catchment area are delighted, as this ensures sufficient water for two crops. Several people from nearby villages have gathered to witness the overflowing lake, creating a festive atmosphere.
In Khanapur mandal of Warangal district, Pakhala Lake is now almost full after two days of continuous heavy rain. The water level has reached 29 feet, just one foot short of its full capacity of 30 feet. Irrigation department officials believe that if heavy rain continues for another day, the lake will overflow.
Similarly, the Ammapuram Pedda Cheruvu in Thorrur mandal of Mahbubabad district is overflowing after two days of intense rainfall. Farmers, villagers, and fishermen are celebrating, with many rushing to the tank with nets to catch fish.
The Ibrahimpur Peddapalli Cheruvu in Raghunathpalli mandal of Jangaon district is also brimming with rainwater from the recent downpour. This has been a great relief to farmers, whose nurseries were drying up due to a lack of water. Earlier, villagers had offered prayers to local deities for rain and had requested MLA Kadiyam Srihari to fill the tank with Godavari River water. With water released from the Ashwaraopalli reservoir and the heavy rainfall, the tank is now overflowing, bringing much joy to the community.
In Hanamkonda district’s Parkala constituency, heavy rainfall after over two months of dry weather has farmers optimistic that continued showers will help fill local reservoirs and tanks, ensuring sufficient water for Kharif agricultural operations.
