Heavy Rains on Friday Cause Damage Across West Hyderabad
Hyderabad continued to receive light to moderate rainfall throughout the day.

Hyderabad: Heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds on Friday night caused widespread disruption across West Hyderabad, bringing down dozens of trees and damaging power infrastructure across the city. Trees crashed on to roads, vehicles and electricity lines in many areas. Several power lines were snapped, resulting in power outages that affected residents through the night and into Saturday morning.
While the severe weather eased by Saturday, Hyderabad continued to receive light to moderate rainfall throughout the day. According to rainfall data, Rajendranagar recorded the highest rainfall on Saturday at 55 mm. Ameenpur received 31 mm of rain, while Serilingampally recorded 24 mm. Many other parts of the city witnessed light showers at regular intervals, keeping skies cloudy and temperatures relatively cool.
HYDRAA’s disaster response force (DRF) and monsoon emergency teams (MET) staffers used heavy equipment to remove uprooted trees and clear debris from roads to ensure smooth movement of vehicles.
However, multiple complaints were raised over Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited’s (TGSPDCL) delay in solving issues on ground. Residents all across the city raised concerns over how TGSPDCL staff did not tend to power outages or severed power line connections, in some cases for more than 5 hours.
“On Friday night, at around 2 am, tree branches fell on a power line and the wires fell down. We lost power in the entire colony, and we immediately contacted the power department. But they never came. DRF people came at 7 am and removed the branches, but the power department staff didn’t come until 2 pm”, Vikram, a resident of Kondapur stated.
Municipal officials along with traffic police inspected multiple locations and instructed officials to ensure no waterlogging occurs. Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) commissioner G. Srijana, and DGP C.V. Anand inspected multiple locations in Gachibowli.
