Heavy Rain Leaves a Trail of Mud and Silt on Roads

Hyderabad:Several parts of the city received intense rainfall early on Tuesday, leading to waterlogging and inundation in a few low-lying areas. Localities including Moosarambagh, Uppal, Peerzadiguda, Begumpet and surrounding areas witnessed moderate to heavy showers before dawn.

The Nalla Cheruvu bus station was filled with mud and dirt, and saw ankle-deep water inundation. Citizens and passengers faced issues moving in and out of the bus stop with the mud and water.

At Malkajgiri’s Devibnagar, citizens faced severe issues with waterlogging and muddy streets in the morning hours of Tuesday.

Speaking with Deccan Chronicle, Kishan, a resident, said, “We had almost 2 feet of water in our colony. The water stayed for an hour and a half and slowly flowed away, but the mud and silt it carried along with it stayed in the colony streets. Almost five houses got flooded in the colony.”

Another resident, V. Srinivas, said, “It took a lot of time for the water to flow through the old pipeline. A new pipeline which is being placed is not matching the slope to clear water fully.”

Residents at Nagole said that although rainwater entered some internal roads and colonies, teams from HYDRAA's Disaster Response Force (DRF), Monsoon Emergency Teams (MET) and municipal staff responded quickly. Water was pumped out using motors and drains were cleared, allowing normal movement to resume within a short period.

Ramesh, a resident of Nagole’s Survey Colony, said, "The rain was very heavy and water accumulated in our street. We were worried it would remain for hours, but HYDRAA’s teams reached quickly and cleared the water. They said they were stationed at Nagole metro station and pumped out the water."

The rain, however, left a lot of fine sand and silt on the roads and main streets, and several vehicles skidded due to the silt. “Three bikes skidded and fell today. I called the GHMC staff to clear the sand, but they didn’t arrive”, said Akhilesh, a shopkeeper at Amberpet.
