Heavy Rain Disrupts Traffic in Vizag; Roads Waterlogged

Hyderabad: Continuous rain has been lashing Visakhapatnam district since Wednesday night. Waterlogging on the road between Gangavaram and Pedagantyada in Visakhapatnam city disrupted traffic and movement.
The cellar of Raykan Towers in the Housing Board Colony at Kommadi, Madhurawada, was completely inundated following the heavy rains. As the apartment is adjacent to a slope, the retaining wall of the tower collapsed, allowing sewage and rainwater to flood the cellar.
On receiving information around 1 am, PM Palem police, NDRF personnel and fire services personnel responded and safely evacuated 71 people belonging to 15 families from the apartment.
Harijan Jaggayyapalem was also inundated. A sheet-roofed shed collapsed in the hill-slope area of Carpenter Colony while a man, Metta Ramu, was sleeping there with his family.
A huge tree fell across the highway at Aganampudi. Ramu's wife Kanchana and their two children escaped with minor injuries.
Trees also fell on electricity poles behind the gas godown in the Vepagunta area and in Krishnanagar, disrupting power supply throughout Wednesday night.
A tree was uprooted in Srinagar in Kakinada district due to heavy rains, disrupting traffic.
In East Godavari district, the Errakalava stream is flowing in full spate following heavy rains. Floodwater has overflowed onto the Errakalava causeway, disrupting traffic. Vehicular movement between Nidadavole, Madhavaram and Tadepalligudem has been severely affected.
