Heatwave Alert Issued for Telangana; Temperature to Hit 44
People were advised to drink water throughout the day, even if they don’t feel thirsty

Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad, has issued a heatwave alert for many districts, cautioning that the maximum temperature could rise up to 44º Celsius, especially in Adilabad, Karimnagar, Mahbubnagar, Nizamabad, Medak and Sircilla. The public health department has asked people to take extra care to avoid falling sick due to the extreme heat.
People were advised to drink water throughout the day, even if they don’t feel thirsty. Homemade drinks like lemon juice, buttermilk, and fruit juices would be helpful to stay hydrated, as would eating fruits and vegetables with high water content. The department advised residents to stay at home during the hottest part of the day, especially between 12 noon and 3 pm. When going out, people were advised to wear light-coloured cotton clothes and cover their heads with a cap, umbrella, or scarf.
The government has advised against doing heavy work or strenuous activities in the afternoon. Drinking alcohol, tea, coffee, or sugary soft drinks in large amounts should also be avoided. It is also better to avoid eating oily, salty, or stale food during this time.
The public should watch out for signs of heat-related illnesses. Some of the common symptoms include nausea, vomiting, hot and dry skin, high body temperature, headache, fast heartbeat, dizziness, muscle cramps, or feeling confused and tired. In serious cases, the person might faint or even slip into a coma. If anyone shows these symptoms, they should be taken to the nearest government hospital immediately.
