HC Seeks Centre’s Reply on Student Missing in Finland Since May 6

The petition contended that the alleged inaction of Finnish authorities and the Indian Embassy violated his fundamental rights and required urgent intervention

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Wednesday sought a response from the Union government on a petition filed by the parents of a Hyderabad student missing in Finland since May 6.

Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy issued notices to the Union government, the Indian Embassy in Finland, its consular wing, Telangana Police and other authorities, directing them to file responses. The matter has been posted to June 24.

The petition was filed by Gujja Marnatha and Muthyam Reddy, residents of Hayathnagar, whose son Gujja Manideep Reddy is pursuing undergraduate studies at LUT University.

According to the petition, Manideep travelled to Finland in March 2025 after securing admission. His last conversation with his family was on May 5, when he informed his mother that he was at a bakery and would return to his accommodation. He had also requested money during the call.

The parents said repeated attempts to contact him had failed and that his roommates and friends were unable to provide information about his whereabouts. Alleging inadequate response from authorities, they sought directions to the Indian Embassy in Helsinki and other agencies to take up the matter with Finnish authorities through diplomatic and consular channels.

The petition contended that the alleged inaction of Finnish authorities and the Indian Embassy violated his fundamental rights and required urgent intervention.

Appearing for the Centre, standing counsel N.V.R. Rajya Lakshmi submitted that a missing person case had been registered by local police in Finland and that an investigation was in progress. She said the family had been updated on developments until May 29 and that further information would be obtained.
