Harish Rao demanded that the 800 MW of power generated at the Jaipur thermal plant be used exclusively to meet Telangana’s power needs.
Hyderabad: Senior BRS leader T. Harish Rao on Wednesday demanded that the Congress government stop its plans for a joint venture which he said would hand over power from Singareni’s 800 MW thermal power plant to Rajasthan.
In an open letter to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Harish Rao said a recent agreement between Singareni Collieries Company Limited and RRVUNL of Rajasthan made it clear that 800 MW of power from the Singareni Thermal Power Plantat its pithead in Jaipur in Telangana would be supplied to Rajasthan.
As part of the joint venture with RRVUNL, SCCL will also set up a 1,500 MW solar power plant at a cost of ₹22,000 crore in Rajasthan.
Harish Rao said there was no need for Singareni to invest such massive sums elsewhere when Telangana was reeling under power shortages.
Demanding that the 800 MW of power generated at the Jaipur thermal plant be used exclusively to meet Telangana’s power needs, Harish Rao said that the Congress government must withdraw from the joint venture with Rajasthan, failing which the BRS would launch an agitation to protect Telangana’s interests.
