Harish: Govt Negligence Affected Farmers

He alleged that jowar procurement centres have not been opened in districts such as Narayanpet, Adilabad and Nizamabad, and demanded that they be made operational without delay and minimum support price ensured

SIDDIPET: Former minister and Siddipet MLA T. Harish Rao on Saturday alleged that farmers in the State are facing difficulties due to government negligence, particularly in crop procurement.

During a visit to the Siddipet agricultural market yard, he interacted with farmers, who complained that sunflower and maize produce had not been procured for the past four days.

Harish Rao spoke to officials over the phone and asked them to visit the market yard immediately to resolve the issue.

He alleged that jowar procurement centres have not been opened in districts such as Narayanpet, Adilabad and Nizamabad, and demanded that they be made operational without delay and minimum support price ensured.

The MLA said that in the absence of procurement centres, farmers are being forced to sell their produce at lower prices, resulting in losses.

Referring to crop diversification, he said that despite advisories to shift crops, there is no proper system in place to procure the produce.

He also demanded timely release of Rythu Bandhu payments and support for farmers who suffered crop losses due to recent hailstorms.

Harish Rao further alleged that assurances made to Backward Classes under the BC Declaration had not been fulfilled.
