Harish Demands Cut In State-Imposed VAT On Petrol, Diesel
This translates into an additional burden of ₹162 crore on the people of Telangana each month: Reports

HYDERABAD: The BRS on Monday demanded that the Telangana government immediately reduce the Value-Added Tax (VAT) it imposes on petrol and diesel that can help bring down fuel prices in the state.
In an open letter to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, senior BRS leader and former finance minister T. Harish Rao said in the ₹7.50 rise in petrol prices over the past couple of weeks, ₹2.50 was state imposed VAT. “Of the ₹115 per litre petrol, 35 per cent is VAT, while for diesel which now touched ₹103 a litre, the VAT imposed by the state is 27 per cent.
This translates into an additional burden of ₹162 crore on the people of Telangana each month. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, instead of mere statements, must reduce VAT on fuels and pass on the benefits to the people,” Harish Rao said.
Revanth Reddy while in the opposition, raised hue and cry over VAT. Why is he silent now? Harish Rao asked.
“Every section of the society is being hurt because of the rising fuel prices, be they farmers, common people, or the transport sector. This will result in inflation and hit people hard,” Harish Rao said.
