Harish Accuses Government of Helping Andhra Pradesh on Polavaram-Nallamala Sagar Project

He claimed that assurances had been received on this so far.

Hyderabad: Former irrigation minister and senior BRS leader T. Harish Rao on Friday slammed the government for attending a meeting with Andhra Pradesh officials on river water disputes in Delhi. He alleged that the meeting was called by the Centre under pressure from Andhra Pradesh which is pursuing the Polavaram-Nallamalasagar project.

Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan, Harish Rao, BRS Legislature Party deputy floor leader, said: “Why is Telangana taking part in the meeting after declaring earlier in a letter that it will not do so unless the Centre makes it clear that it will not give it any approvals, or permissions, or halts the process of DPR preparation?”

He claimed that assurances had been received on this so far. “The meeting is yet another proof of the Revanth Reddy government’s pattern of systematic cooperation with Andhra Pradesh on its irrigation projects,” he alleged.

Harish Rao also questioned the choice of irrigation adviser Adityanath Das to lead the Telangana team for the meeting. “He worked in the Andhra Pradesh government against Telangana’s irrigation projects. It is like the Telangana government has handed the key to the house to a thief,” he said.

Harish Rao warned that if the Congress government did not mend its ways and start actually fighting for Telangana’s water rights, the BRS was prepared to launch a renewed agitation to safeguard the state’s irrigation interests.
