Hyderabad: Artisans trained under government schemes still depend heavily on public platforms for sales and visibility, officials observed at the inauguration of a 10-day thematic exhibition at Uppal Mini Shilparamam on Saturday.
Shruthi Patil, additional director general, Press Information Bureau, and the Central Bureau of Communication, said such exhibitions play a key role in supporting traditional craft communities and urged for more consistent public engagement.
She was joined by Suvarchala, assistant director in the office of the development commissioner (handicrafts), Union textiles ministry, G. Kishan Rao, special officer, Shilparamam, national awardee and silver filigree artist Dosada Krishna Chari Gari and APPC assistant director Vijaya Sagar.
The exhibition features a range of handicrafts including Kondapalli toys, Narsapur lace, Cheriyal paintings, Savara paintings, palm leaf crafts and bobbin lace. The officials interacted with several artisans, many of whom have received government training and incentives but rely on such events to earn a livelihood.
